Enjoyable Listens + Powdered Crows

  • Bear Cave 24-26 Holdenhurst Road Bournemouth, England, BH8 8AD United Kingdom (map)

Pier presents has partnered with The Shindig for a night of indie lyrical mastery and hip swaying fun at Bear Cave, Bournemouth. The first, we hope, of many gig collaborations!

And we're starting with a mighty fine pairing of touring act and local favourite. Oxfordshire's Luke Duffett brings his musical moniker Enjoyable Listens to the south coast and is joined by local indie stalwarts Powdered Cows.

Enjoyable Listens have played gigs across the world, including NYC (where Pier Editor Laura first caught them) and recently toured with Electric Six. The music draws on the best of the 80s and 90s indie sound, with lyrics that would not be out of place on a Divine Comedy or The Smiths record. Dead-pan humour and stunning observational songs brought to life with twangy, whirring guitars and compelling drum beats.

Singles such as 'A Laugh and a Half', 'Dead Frozen' and 'Summer Hit' showcase a knack for bright melodies that carry a sting in the tail, balancing scrappy indie textures with thoughtful arrangements to sway to.

Powdered Cows - made up of Martin Roberts and James Worrell - are a Bournemouth-based avant-garde indie duo known for weaving off-kilter melodies with unpredictable songcraft. Since the late 2000s they’ve released a steady stream of recordings — from early 4-track outings like Come Off Violence to albums such as Tres Vacas, featuring songs like 'Your Holiday' and 'Small Bananas.'
